The Pre-school is run by an experienced Play Leader (Yvonne Rolfe), supported by a deputy and assisted by a team of enthusiastic, qualified staff who regularly undertake courses to update training.

The Pre-school accepts children aged from 2 years to school age and participates in the government’s Revised Early Years Foundation Stage Education (EYFS). We follow the national standards for learning development and care for children from birth to 5. Pre-schools curriculum follows the seven areas of learning and development as approved in the statutory framework for EYFS, as follows:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

This prepares children for starting school and we maintain good working relationships with the local feeder schools.

The Pre-school operates to established and well-defined policies and procedures. Equal opportunities are actively promoted and a broad spectrum of special needs can be accommodated. Each child is treated as an individual and the group’s ultimate aim is to enable children to learn at their own pace by providing as many stimulating and exciting opportunities as possible by working in close partnership with parents and carers, also sharing information with other early year educators with parents permission.

We regularly invite speakers to visit e.g. a dentist or the emergency services. In this regard, parents are welcome to come in and share their knowledge and experiences with us.

Outdoor activities are part of our daily routine, the chance to get outside and enjoy some fresh air is a very important part of our day. We have a large, secure and wonderfully child friendly equipped outdoor play area.

The primary schools which lead on after preschool have been validated as a Healthy Promoting School, encouraging children to eat healthily and exercise regularly. We aim to introduce this idea before the children reach school by way of healthy snacks and drinks and lots of physical activities.

Copies of our policies and procedures that are relevant to parents, children and staff can be found in the foyer at Pre-school.
